White Elastomeric Roof coatings

Understanding the Technology That Drives Innovation

Most people have heard the terms acrylic, polymer, elastomeric and reflective. Some terms may seem obvious while others may or may not be understood at all. All polymers are not acrylic, and all acrylics are not appropriate for all applications. In terms of polymers for elastomeric reflective roof coatings, this article will focus only on acrylic polymer technologies.

Acrylic polymers can be designed to be tough and hard, flexible and soft, or at various compositions in-between. Perhaps one the hardest acrylic polymer-based products would be Plexiglas™, an extremely durable polymer composition. Though most forms of Plexiglas are clear, most acrylics are mixed with other materials to create products in thousands of colors for plastics, paints, adhesives, caulks, and other functional coatings.  Read more...

Roof Coatings Save More Than Energy

White Elastomeric Coatings Can Restore, Protect and Beautify Low-Slope Roofs

It’s no surprise that reflective roof coatings remain the fastest-growing product segment in the fluid-applied roofing market. Cool roof coatings can lower energy consumption — a key goal of state and federal regulators — as well as meet more stringent cool roof performance requirements in the building codes.
While it’s true that the high solar reflectivity and emittance of white elastomeric coatings can cut down on air conditioning costs, these products do a lot more than just save energy.
White elastomeric coatings can restore, protect and beautify most waterproofing systems and prolong the life of almost any low-slope roof, including metal.
Even contractors who have shied away from selling restorative roof coatings are seeing the opportunities. Some have even begun installing these products themselves rather than subbing them out to coatings specialists.
